The Trstená na Ostrove – Baka canal suffers from insufficient flow, particularly during dry summer months. The project in preparation aims to improve its water regime through a regulated supply from the left-bank seepage canal beside the Gabčíkovo waterworks.

Connecting two waterways

The design combines a regulated intake, an underground DN 600 connecting pipe and an outlet structure. Construction also involves temporarily modifying an existing stone weir and restoring it afterwards. These elements form a single functional system.

Value for the landscape

A more regular water supply is intended to reduce stagnation and support aquatic and riparian habitats. This is a hydrological connection, not a declared fish pass. Its ecological benefits are assessed against the specific water regime and local habitats.

Implementation requirements

Preparation brings together the technical design, financing and permit conditions. Works must account for groundwater levels, access, existing utilities and trees, and the coordination of construction beside water.
