Habitat revitalisation and restoration in Záhorie – bank restoration measures on the Morava, river km 24–25
A more natural riverbank and renewed habitats along the Morava.

This project in preparation in Záhorie focuses on restoring banks and habitats along the Morava section known as river km 24–25. It aims to reduce the effects of engineered bank protection and create a more varied transition between the river and its surroundings.
Intended benefits
The proposed measures include removing part of the existing bank protection, reshaping the bank, and creating shallows and refuges for aquatic life. Planting is planned with native floodplain species. The aim is to support the riparian ecosystem and a more natural connection between water and bank.
Preparation in a sensitive landscape
River restoration must respect nature conservation, forest land and access needed for construction. Bank works, access routes, material handling and the precise footprint of the works therefore need to be considered together.
Current stage
Engineering preparation is under way. The design is being aligned with land rights, forestry and permitting requirements. The final scope of intervention remains part of this process.
