The project addresses gravel bars in the original Danube channel near Baka and Bodíky. Following the flow changes associated with the Gabčíkovo waterworks, sediment accumulated and vegetation expanded on these bars. The proposed revitalisation combines improved flow conditions with river habitat restoration.

Two locations, one approach

The design covers Baka at river km 1821.180–1823.250 and Bodíky at river km 1824.500–1827.300. It proposes side channels and islands, with phased widening of the channels. The works aim to provide more space for flowing water and regular flushing.

Intended ecological benefits

A more varied flowing-water environment is intended to improve migration, spawning and overwintering conditions for native fish. Islands and gravel surfaces may also provide different habitat types. These are design objectives, not results already measured.

Organising the works

The scope requires phasing, coordinated earthworks and material movements, and compliance with nature conservation requirements. Aligning technical measures, quantities and implementation conditions is an important part of preparation.
